Can you introduce yourself by sharing your name, where you're from, your role in the yachting industry, and the company you work for?
My name is Eleonora, and I’m often described as the 'Italian with an Austrian touch.' I come from the Friuli region of Italy, a place that shares its borders with Austria and Slovenia and is still deeply influenced by the culture of the Habsburg Empire.
I work for Burgess, based in Monaco, where I hold the roles of Shipyard Relationship Coordinator and Sales Broker.
Can you share how you first got involved in the yachting industry?
I’ve been in the industry for 15 years. My initial approach to yachting was quite casual—I moved to the French Riviera for personal reasons and came across a job announcement for a small brokerage company looking for an Office Manager in Monaco. The rest is history 😉.
Can you describe your role and the key tasks you handle? What does your job entail on a daily basis?
I prefer to divide the role I cover into two levels: the B2B basis and the B2C basis.
The role of Shipyard Relationship Coordinator pertains to the first level. I am responsible for maintaining constant communication with shipyards worldwide and ensuring the Global Sales Team stays up-to-date on deals, availability, and opportunities arising from new builds.
On the B2C level, I handle the typical responsibilities of a Sales Broker, which include managing Central Agencies for sale, maintaining a client portfolio, and seeking new business opportunities.
Could you walk us through a typical workday, including your main tasks and projects?
I can provide a couple of practical examples during the interview, such as when I contact a shipyard or inspect one.
Can you describe what it's like to work at Burgess? What is the work environment and company culture like?
Working at Burgess feels like being part of a big family. I've always worked for companies, and if I weren't working for a company, I would be working for international organizations. 😉
What would you consider your biggest accomplishment or proudest moment in the yachting industry?
The day I was appointed Sales Broker for Burgess, I couldn’t imagine I would get that far in my yachting career.
What is your vision for the future of the yachting industry?
Yachting needs to structure itself as an industry. The last 10 years have been quite crucial, with companies striving to establish industry standards, uphold work ethics, and now tackle the challenge of sustainability.
Is there something about you or your work that most people might not know?
I volunteer for a United Nations NGO called the UNGMDF, headquartered in New York. I am part of the European branch. The organization works to advance the Global Millennium Fund goals in equality, sustainability, human rights, and children's rights.
What advice would you give to your younger self, and what do you wish you had known on your first day in the yachting industry?
Yachting is a unique and fascinating industry, but you need to be humble and patient to learn how to tie the ropes properly.
