Georgia Agù serves as Group General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Azimut Benetti Group, one of the world’s leading yacht manufacturers. In this role, she oversees the legal and compliance strategy across Benetti, Azimut Yachts, and Lusben, managing complex international contracts, regulatory frameworks, and corporate governance across multiple jurisdictions. Her work sits at the intersection of commercial strategy, risk management, and operational excellence, supporting the construction, sale, and lifecycle management of some of the most advanced yachts in the global market.
Georgia leads the Group’s legal department, where she directs negotiations and drafting of yacht construction contracts, sale and purchase agreements, and a wide portfolio of supplier, distribution, procurement, and licensing contracts. Her responsibilities extend beyond transactional work to include intellectual property portfolio management, litigation coordination across international markets, and ensuring compliance with evolving global regulatory standards. By aligning legal structure with business strategy, she plays a critical role in enabling Azimut Benetti to operate confidently across the highly complex and internationally regulated superyacht industry.
Since stepping into the Group General Counsel position in 2020, Georgia has focused on strengthening compliance governance and developing industry-wide standards. She is currently working alongside sector associations to help shape compliance and supplier management frameworks that support greater transparency, accountability, and operational consistency across the yachting supply chain. This work reflects a broader shift within the industry toward stronger governance structures and professionalization as yacht projects continue to increase in scale, complexity, and global exposure.
Georgia’s path into yachting began with a strategic decision to transition from private legal practice into an in-house international contracts environment. Her early career included working as an attorney specializing in international contracts and corporate law, followed by legal counsel roles within both Azimut Benetti and Comau S.p.A., where she developed deep expertise in multinational commercial negotiations and industrial project structures. In 2014, she became Head of Azimut Yachts Legal Department before advancing to her current leadership role overseeing the Group’s entire legal and compliance operations.
Her academic background reinforces her global legal perspective. Georgia holds degrees in Law and International and Diplomatic Sciences from the University of Turin, with specialization in International Private Law. She further advanced her expertise through postgraduate studies in International Trade Law with UNIDROIT and UNCITRAL at the International Training Center of the International Labour Organization. Beyond her corporate leadership, she actively contributes to legal education, serving as a lecturer in international business contracts and comparative law, helping shape the next generation of legal professionals working in global commercial environments.
Georgia highlights that one of the most distinctive aspects of yachting law is its complexity and specialization, often combining maritime regulation, international trade law, luxury asset construction, and cross-border corporate governance. She notes that these nuances are rarely fully addressed in traditional legal education and require hands-on industry experience to master. Her career reflects a commitment to building this expertise while helping elevate legal and compliance standards across the sector.
Through her leadership, Georgia continues to strengthen the legal infrastructure that supports one of the world’s most sophisticated yacht-building groups. Her work ensures that innovation, craftsmanship, and global client relationships operate within a structured, compliant, and strategically protected framework, reinforcing Azimut Benetti’s position as a benchmark for excellence in the international yachting industry.
